• Join us for a series of engaging workshops led by the Social Work Education Partnership (SWEP), aimed at enhancing social work education on both national and regional levels. These sessions offer a unique opportunity for collaboration among stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing improvement of social work education.

At SWEP, our goal is to establish a more sustainable and equitable system that upholds quality and consistency in social work education, drawing from the insights and recommendations of the SSSC review. Guided by our overarching principles, these workshops aim to foster partnership working, promote a shared professional learning culture, and ensure consistency and equity of opportunity for social work students across Scotland.

This session has been designed specifically for stakeholders interested in supporting and meeting the needs of social work students. We are keen to hear from social work students, newly qualified social workers and any other stakeholders who have a key interest in supporting social work students throughout their journey to being a qualified social worker.

The online workshop will be guided by the below overarching principles.

    Key Principles:

    • Partnership Working: We believe that collaboration between universities and employers should be integral to social work education, beginning from the onset of degree courses and continuing throughout.
    • Professional Learning Culture: We prioritise knowledge exchange and research to cultivate a shared professional learning culture within qualifying education and social work practice.
    • Consistency and Equity: Regardless of geographical location, qualification route, or academic institution, all social work students in Scotland should have consistent experiences and equitable opportunities.
    • Workforce Planning: We advocate for workforce planning that starts at the entry point to social work qualification routes, ensuring an adequate supply of trained professionals to deliver high-quality services and meet policy directives.
    • Practice Learning Opportunities: Social work students undertaking qualification routes through Scottish Higher Education Institutes are guaranteed at least one assessed Practice Learning Opportunity within a Local Authority setting.
    • Flexibility and Accessibility: Our infrastructure prioritises flexibility to deliver high-quality, accessible qualification routes across diverse professional and geographical landscapes.
