First Steps
The First Steps Team undertakes assessment and provides support to expectant parents where there are concerns for the wellbeing and safety of their unborn child. The First Steps Team works with a range of complex issues with expectant and new parents.
Dr Cally Bleasby biography:
“I have worked in health, social care and education for 18 years. Prior to becoming a social worker, I worked in a range of health and social care settings including inpatient and community mental health settings, and early intervention services. Working with young people who had disengaged from education sparked my interest in social work and led me to study to become a qualified social worker.
Before moving into higher education, I worked as a child and family social worker for several years before working at another educational institution in the North East for 5 years where I completed my teaching qualification and taught across a range of health, social care and childcare degree programmes. I joined the University of Sunderland in 2020 as Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Social Work. In 2023 I became Associate Head of School in the School of Social Sciences.”
